Copper Tungsten is the ideal electrode material for EDMing carbide and tungsten carbide workpieces. It is widely used when superior surface finish is required. The electrical conductivity is increased when the copper content is increased. When sharper detail and less electrode wear is required, the high tungsten content is more suitable.

High-speed steel tools are usually used in machining copper tungsten, but tungsten carbide tools are more suitable for machining multiple electrodes. Common Copper Tungsten grades are 70% Tungsten with 30% copper mix and 75% Tungsten with 25% copper mix.

Riverport Technologies offers Copper Tungsten in the following standard dimensions and tolerances - (other sizes and tolerances are available upon request):

  • Rods 1/8" dia. thru 4" dia. x 8" or 12" lengths (tolerances are +.005" -.000")
  • Squares and rectangles x 8" or 12" lengths.
  • Thin sheets starting with 0.001" thick with widths of 1",2" & 3", and lengths of 4" & 8".
  • Tubing of .020"thru .090" outside diameter are available in 7" lengths.
  • Tubing .090" thru 1" outside diameters are available in 8" lengths.
  • ROTOTUBES: These off-center hole tubes provide excellent flushing when utilizing rotating head EDM units. The off-center hole location during rotation produces a blind hole with flat and square bottoms. Roto-tubes are available in .037" and larger diameters.
